The main differences between them are that the 5500DN is faster, offers slightly better quality, costs about $400 less, and is our new Editors' Choice—replacing the 9050dn.

Both printers also qualify as big. The 5500DN weighs 90 pounds and measures 19.6 by 25.2 by 20.7 inches (HWD). Physical setup is a touch harder than for the 9050dn, but not by much. In addition to installing a toner cartridge, you also have to install a drum cartridge and the two-piece duplexing unit, which takes a few additional minutes. Network installation is as easy as it gets, requiring little more than a mouse click. For remote management, Xerox provides its fine CentreWare Web utility.
