Google Is Shutting Down Answer Service 

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 29 — Google said today that it would shut down Google Answers, a service that allows users to pose a question to a panel of researchers and pay for a helpful answer.
 
The service, which started about four years ago, failed to gain much traction with users, especially when compared to a rival service offered by Yahoo, which is free.

A new kind of traffic report, combining real-time GPS data from vehicles on the road with predictions of traffic jams before they happen, is coming soon to major U.S. cities, including San Jose.

In one of its first major efforts to build a Web site with original material, Yahoo will introduce today a site devoted to consumer technology.
 
The site, called Yahoo Tech (tech.yahoo.com), will feature blogs on technology and a weekly video program. It will also republish articles and product reviews from several magazines and accept comments contributed by users.

SAN FRANCISCO— Microsoft reported strong third-quarter revenue growth on Thursday, but analysts said the company also telegraphed a significant increase in spending, an indication that it was preparing to take on its big online rivals, Google and Yahoo.

Microsoft Is Seen Near Ad Move

Microsoft is close to reaching a deal to buy Massive Incorporated, which makes technology that inserts advertisements into video games, a member of Massive's board said yesterday.
 
The board member, Douglas P. Miscoll, a partner with the venture capital firm Newlight Associates, said the price was $200 million to $400 million, but he declined to be more specific.
